Juan Carlos is an Actor with more than 34 years of career in Mexico. He was an essential member and founder of the Compañía Nacional de Teatro for 10 years. He is a graduate of the Escuela de Arte Teatral (INBA) and has taken Acting Specialization Courses in the Odin Theater, Roy Hart Theater, Yoshi Oida, Héctor Mendoza, and Jean Marie Binoche; where he has specialized in Japanese Saber with the Sempai Juan Pablo Aguirre, in addition, he learned Fencing with Martin Benitez. Nowadays, we can see him performing as "Agustín Negrete" in the Suspense Tv-Series of Claro Video "La Negociadora" together with Barbara Mori. For Netflix's platform, Juan Carlos performed as Sergio, a transcendental character in history during Season 1 and 2 in the Tv-Series "Quien Mató a Sara". Soon the new movie by Mario Muñoz "Los Minutos Negros" will be premiered, where he is a fundamental part of the story. Coming soon for Disney, we are going to be able to see him performing in "Horario Estelar" and in the Second Season of "Un Extraño Enemigo", among others.

His first play "Further Beyond" was accepted into the 2000 SummerWorks Theatre Festival and played at the Factory Theatre Main Stage. The production later toured to the Grand Theatre in London, where it played to sold-out houses, receiving critical acclaim. He was a key member of the 2001 Playwright's Unit at Cahoot's Theatre Projects, where he completed writing his play "The 8 o'clock Train" under the direction of Guillermo Verdecchia. He also co-wrote the one man show "Borderlines" with his father Alfonso Velis Tobar, which had a successful run in Vancouver, British Columbia. Juan Carlos is a founding member and serves as Artistic Director & Executive Producer of "Acropolis Theatre Company", which produced the annual: "Shakespeare on the Thames Theatre Festival" in London. His latest play "Howling Winds" will premiere this fall in the Niagara region. His film work as a director/writer includes: the short films: Hereafter, Desire, Whore, The mini series: Drive. He has various scripts in development under his production company Izalco Films.
